substitute for ghee

I'm trying out some Indian recipes - anyone know what a good ghee butter subsitute would be?  I can't seem to find ghee in the store and wanted a good ghee alternative.  THANKS!

Heat a pound of butter to boiling, reduce to medium. Let butter foam, settle down and foam again. The whole thing will only take about 10-12 minutes and the butter will turn golden when done. Strain through cheese cloth to remove solids and store in an airtight container.

Hi.  If you can't find pre-packaged ghee at your local grocery, you have a few options for finding a ghee alternative:1.  make your own ghee.  Ghee, or clarified butter, can be heated to a higher temperature without burning so it may be used for sautéing and frying. Making clarified butter isn't too hard.  2. another good ghee alternative is vegetable oil.  1 tablespoon ghee is equal to vegetable oil.
