I've been in a matcha phase for some time now ... drinking matcha tea instead of green tea or coffee, trying to think up creative desserts, and the like. A not-so-original way that I thought to use matcha is in a fruit smoothie. I initially tried blending with ice, yogurt and honey, but I found the smoothie flavor greatly improved when adding a tropical fruit of some kind, whether mango or pineapple. Matcha already lends itself to a slightly sweet flavor, so don't put too much!
handful of ice
handful of frozen mango, frozen pineapple or both
1 cup of milk
splash of yogurt
1/2 tsp matcha
Throw the ice in "ice" mode in a blender and blend. Then add everything else, blending until smooth. Add the matcha last and blend a bit more. Serve and enjoy!
